1.explain翻译成“解释”“说明”，为什么？
我们可以通过把explain拆分成两个部分来进行分析。
第一部分：ex-作为词汇的前缀，可以表示“向外”的意思。
第二部分：plain它的意思就是“平的”的单词，跟单词plan都有这个含义，plan“计划”就是表示把内容写在平铺的纸上，便翻译成“计划”。
结论：我们把ex-的“向外”，和plain的“平的”，合并起来后，explain便可以理解为“把事情摊开来说，说明白事情”，因此翻译成“解释”“说明”。

explain它是一个及物动词，一般explain+某物/从句，就可以。
?例子：It is hard to explain why he bully the little girl. 很难解释为什么他会欺负这个小女孩。
?另外,explain还可以跟介词to 后加某人进行使用，就是explain sth to sb，或者explain to sb+句子，意思就是“向某人解释某事”。
例子：The robber attempted to explain his motive to the police .强盗试图向警方解释他的动机。
?3.explain的派生词explanation
explanation是explain的名词形式，是一个可数名词。特别注意的是它的拼写，是没有explain中的i字母。
?使用的时候一般跟for进行搭配使用 explanation for sth/doing sth 表示“…的原因”
?用法上也可以跟of进行搭配使用give an explanation of sth 表示“某事的原因”
例子1：An explanation for the accident was judged unreasonable.这事故的解释被认为是不合理的。
例子2：If you deny her offer,please give an explanation of it.如果你拒绝她的提议，请给出解释。
